WordPress multisite development – A conceptual approach to PHP web development
Wordpress multisite development – A conceptual approach to PHP web development
Powerful Wordpress Multisite; some might have heard of this and some might not. This is nothing but simply the Wordpress configuration which is usually a PHP web development as well and allows the user to launch the several websites off to their native website. It is not actually something that most users might be aware of; instead it is worth getting the details in order to rate the website.
What exactly Wordpress Multisite means?
Just assume that you are up to date with the installation of Wordpress and no one will be there who would be falling behind at their up gradation, and then there will not be any doubt that Multisite will be the ingredient of Wordpress website. However, Wordpress – the PHP framework offers one blog or site to run consequently and turning on Multisite will aid the user to explore additional websites off to the blog. So, for the meanwhile, usual Wordpress website structure may appear like this:
www.tourismandfood.com
In contrast to this, the multisite’s additional URL will appear like:
www.blog.padhokhelo.com
Multisite bequeathing facile setup:
The steps that are required to set-up the platform just needs to have the root privileges. This way, you can also see how to fix the Initial Setver Setup. Before, you work with Wordpress, you just have to install LAMP on the virtual private server. In case, you do not have Apache, Linux, PHP stack and MySQL, just follow a tutorial for setting up the Ubuntu Lamp tutorial.
Once, you have acquired the user and enviable software, just process and Install Wordpress. However, you need to ensure that you stop at the last step of installation.
When not to employ Wordpress Multisite?
You must know that Wordpress Multisite is the powerful and the coolest platform, but this is not appropriate for all the websites and projects. In order to explain this in a better style, this has been explained using examples:
- Portfolio Web site:
Demonstrating the work with categories, images, contact and case studies, the information can be handled via single Wordpress website.
- Small Business Website:
This might be a very few information pages and it can be a contact form as well. Just use Wordpress instead of Wordpress Multisite.

- Managing too many websites:
This may be a possibility, but it is not always true. If we will consider a few websites, all with different purposes, goals and functions, it will be the best way if you will run them on different installation of a peculiar Wordpress. However, there will be nothing wrong at this stage as long as you will keep on updating them.

Personal Blog:If you are having a single blog, then better prefer using Wordpress. Even, if you are having various authors, categories and magazine-style blog having different topics as long as they all are under one website, the best way is to stick with Wordpress.
What makes Wordpress Multisite unique?
Those who have tackled with Wordpress, but not Wordpress Multisite, might be wondering the differences among these two. Following are some of the differences:

- Network Admin:
In surplus to the dashboard for each website on Wordpress Multisite network, there
always exists another dashboard namely; “network admin”. It is a platform where the user can easily manage the settings on the network-wide ground. The access is provided to only to the single user.

- Super Administrator Role:
Within the regular Wordpress, the role of the “administrator” is the prominent one. Wordpress Multisite still owns an administrator role for every individual website, but still there is always be a super administrator. This is the platform that owns the access to every website that lies on the network and this is possible with the ability of managing everything on each site.

- Themes and Plugins:
Management of theme and plugins is another lucrative difference between Wordpress and Wordpress Multisite. Within Wordpress Multisite, themes and plugins are installed within the network admin that are available for using across the entire network. However, there are two ways that can make the theme and plugin activate and these are: The network admin allows to “network enable” a theme or network activate a plugin. It is capable of activating the plugin automatically and will make the theme available for using across other site within the network. There is one other way to activate the plugin or theme at the single website level.

How to grow your wordpress empire with freelance writers
How to grow your wordpress empire with freelance writers
WordPress initially released as a free blogging tool has now matured into a full-fledged content management system (CMS). WordPress is gaining over a vast traffic from bloggers , publishers and webmasters alike; especially suited to organizations that have a limited number of content contributors. As per Wikipedia, more than 13% of the top 1 million websites use WordPress.
The two strengths of WordPress have always been described as its flexibility and ease of use. But this also has come with the cost of limitation in its core functionality in implementing an efficient editorial workflow.
Hence, publishers and marketers even with small teams who manage content from a large pool of sources have struggled in effectively streamlining the editorial process and allowing their writers and editors to retain focus on content, not on administrative tasks.
Being a WordPress publisher, who has handled over 20 publications and a content team of over 100 members at a time, I have always looked for the ways and means to refine my content production workflow so that I can devote more and more time in producing top notch content. I have selected few of the WordPress plugins which have helped me to a great extent.
1. Content Cloud: Betaout’s ContentCloud is a beautiful, highly intuitive, user-friendly and cloud-based service that allows publishers to manage and refine their editorial workflows. Editors can create and edit assignments for their team, track their changes, send feedback, manage deadlines and set-up their own custom workflows. Once editors are happy with their content, they can publish assignments directly to their WordPress sites thanks to a seamless integration between Betaout and WordPress platform.

You can plugin multiple WordPress sites for a single Betaout account, and create team members with different user roles. Editors can easily follow assignments as they move from one desk to another, and can collaborate effectively within the interface. Some of the features includes custom workflows, resource sharing, editorial calendar, team analytics, activity feed and team management.
2. Multisite User Management: Multisite User Management is a popular plugin that helps the publisher to create or delete user with their necessary authentication without any kind of manual back-end configuration. This plugin allows the admin to add more parallel users to a single WordPress Blog or Website.

Users can also be assigned different roles such as authors or editors designation who can posts contents or review incoming articles. This plugin solves the problem of multiple user management thus ensuring a constructive user panel who can maintain the workflow.
3. Document Revisions: Document Revision plugin allows multiple editors to work collaboratively on a single project without creating any synchronization issues. This plugin can handle any numbers of editorial panel or admin to review multiple of single project at a same point of time.

This plugin actually saves the time of multi-layered approval forwarding and preserve the positive workflow.
4. User Permission: User Permission WordPress plugin is one of the most post specific plugin used in various multiple author team functions. The plugin increases the workflow functionality by allowing post specific permissions for various users and readers. The plugin while allowing the administrator to post different permissions for different posts, it also allows restriction in reading or writing of any page or specific post according to the user’s defined role. User Permission suits those websites that want to block non registered users to read any post or specific content.
5.Post Forking: Post Forking plugin is based on a technique, where each and every post edits creates a parallel version of the original published content, so that unapproved editing cannot affect the site before editors or admin approves the change. This system creates an alternative copy of the actual content in the back end database and notifies the approval team to review the change.
Wordpress is a great CMS for small team bloggers, and with above mentioned awesome plugins it can be easily converted into a full fledged editorial newsroom capable CMS, answering all the needs of the medium to big teams using Wordpress as their CMS.
Analysis of WPAU- WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plug-in
A plugin that automat
ically upgrades your wordpress blog. Yeah! That`s what we are talking about. Wordpress has the core software that is built by hundreds of community volunteers and houses more than thousands of plugins and themes to make a blog almost a user can imagine.
There are over 25million people who have chosen wordpress to power the place on web they call home. Some people who have self hosted wordpress blog would have the opportunity to notice the multiple updates for installed plugins. Many still hesitate to try the automatic upgrade, but it is not as scary as many think.
Plugins can extend wordpress to almost anything a user can imagine. There are at present 16,264 plugins available in wordpress.org and the number is still counting. For example WPtouch is a simple, elegant and powerful mobile theme for a user`s site. This plugin automatically transforms the blog to an iphone application-style, theme, complete with ajax loading articles and effects when viewed from iphone, ipod touch, palm pre, Samsung touch, blackberry storm/torch devices. Another plugin that goes by the name, wickett twitter widget, displays tweets from one or more accounts into wordpress widgets.
Created by Keith Dsouza, a techie, editor in chief and owner of techiebuzz.com, the wordpress automatic upgrade is not a default part of wordpress 2.5; it has to be installed normally. i.e., the user has to download the zip file, unzip it, upload the resulting folder into the plug in folder and activate it. Once it is activated, the user walks through eight steps.
- It backs up files and makes available a link to download it.
- It backs up the database and makes available a link to download it.
- Downloads the latest files from wordpress.org/latest.zip and unzips it.
- Put the site in maintenance mode.
- Deactivates all active plugins and remembers it.
- Upgrades wordpress files.
- Gives user a link that will open window to upgrade installation.
- Reactivates the plugins.
There is also a fully automated mode. The manual mode can be used when the automatic upgrade fails and the users are advised to follow wordpress upgrade instructions. The plugins use only 2-3MB of the user`s bandwidth to download files. The backup and db files will be stored in a folder called wpau-backup in the root folder of the user`s site.
In order to use the automatic upgrade plugin, the user has to produce the FTP (File transfer Protocol) address, typically the user`s domain name, the FTP user name and password. The user has to mention whether the connection type is FTP or a sFTP (Secured File transfer protocol). This information can be obtained from the webhost. With the FTP information the user provide, the wordpress automatic upgrade plugin (WPAU) will change the file information so that WPAU can automatically write files to the server. Once the upgrade is over, the WPAU will automatically change the permissions back to read only.
