Chrome browser for the Android platform

Chrome browser for AdnroidChrome browser for the Android platform

The Google Chrome Browser for the Android has been on the calling cards for a long time now; and now, it has finally arrived. The launch included all tablets running the Ice cream Sandwich software. For the Smartphone, a separate beta version was showcased.

Therefore, as of now, there won’t be many people who can benefit from the browser app. The Google Chrome Browser lets you double-up with the desktop version and keep your mobile device synchronized, so that you don’t miss out on anything, while on the move.

All bookmarks and saved tabs would be transferred to your mobile device via a chrome account. The new features include better looks, superior functionality, better zooming-in options and a re-imagined user interface.

In my opinion, the Google Chrome Browser is not an ‘amazing’ app in its entirely. But then, I would agree on the point, that the way tabs open up on the screen and the way they are positioned, is pretty nifty. Google says, this new feature is to make the user’s experience more comfortable while the user flips through the tabs ‘like a pack of cards’. Well, I do appreciate this feature; but other than this, there isn’t anything new.

Maybe because a few months ago, the Google Chrome to Phone app had the same idea and had worked out in an amazing way. The Google Chrome Browser is just an extension of this idea. Moreover, the Google Chrome to Phone app had a Firefox extension too, which meant anyone using Chrome or Firefox would be able to use the software to keep the mobile device up to date.

Now, let’s not go into that debate and concentrate on the usability of the new Google Chrome Browser app for the Android.

The Pros:

  • Extremely useful and convenient (if you are an avid Google Chrome user)
  • Improved graphical user interface
  • Tabs are redesigned to make your usage more comfortable
  • Use gestures to flip through tabs
  • Apps like YouTube, Google Maps, and other features are integrated.
  • Send YouTube videos and Play it via the YouTube player
  • Send webpages automatically from an open web browser
  • Sync your phone with all the content
  • Copy text from clipboard and send it over to a message box or untitled document
  • Copy number and send it to the dialer

The Cons:

  • Only the beta version is available for Smartphone now
  • Only available for tablets running Android version 4.0-Ice cream Sandwich
  • You need a chrome account to access all its features
  • Stability issues for Smartphone (as it’s a beta version)
  • Less accessibility, as of now

The Google browser is useful in very many ways. The synchronizing features of the app are superb and you would truly feel like living a dream; with all that data getting transferred to your phone with a simple click!

Nevertheless, the new Google Chrome Browser has a lot of potential and can prove to be an effective tool in business communications, if more and more people can gain access to it. Otherwise, the software will have only a niche number of users and, will die eventually.

Social media and SEO go hand-in-hand

SEO and social mediaLast 2-3 years have marked a unanimous growth of both SEO and social media websites. This rise should have, and ultimately has, sparked the debate on the ‘better option’. When it comes to the question, for online businesses, on which to rely more; SEO marketing or social media websites, they are perplexed.

Where as some experts are of the view that SEO is dead and Facebook and Twitter will write new chapters in online marketing there are people, who can prove that just top rank in Google is still not the crown. After long discussions what was drafted was that both the giant technologies need to go hand in hand where getting biased towards one can harm you badly.

Facebook’s fan page or twitter or FourSquare’s ‘check in’, which are considered to be the new age marketing tools might let people know about the brand you are trying to promote but still 80% people simply Google the product before buying them. This is the moment when you require SEO support to top the Google list. We need to differentiate between the Facebook search and Google search. Even if you find a company’s page in Facebook you still check Google ranking or leave that, you will still goggle to find more about the company.

When people ‘like’ the product on Facebook what does it actually do? Or how does it help in terms on online marketing. It simple brings the product in Google’s watch list. Here we are back to square one; Google. And that is what can be achieved when the website is strict on SEO. Just winning the race of ‘likes’ will not help until you have strong back up support of the website content in terms of search engine optimization.

Undoubtedly just stuffing the website with keyword content is not a good plan either. What penultimate preference is optimization and ultimately is traffic diversion. Businesses just cannot rely on fan following because ‘liking’ is not buying. You like what your friends do but that does not happen when you buy, you have a choice.

SEO, as is normally considered, is a medium to top Google search list; has one more work. SEO enabled website has sensible content. Think of the situation where daily hundred people divert from Facebook to your website but the text in it is crap! When they look to fill forms they have 10 steps to go through. That is bound to cut the conversions.

SEO is not dead and at this age should work compositely with social media websites. If you are business holder, you must take good hold of media websites but simultaneously your website should come up with SEO content not just keywords and links. Take care when traffic comes to you, you can handle it.

That means when people look into your websites or fill forms the process should be SEO filtered. The reflection that whey saw in social media website should be maintained when it comes to actual realization of the website; SEO and social media websites should go hand in hand.

No Flash for Chrome on Android: Adobe

No flash for chrome in AndroidAdobe flash player, the popular plug-in used for online gaming, video streaming and sharing and photo editing will not work for the chrome browser on your android phone. Google chrome the web-browser available for desktops and laptops is now available on a tablet or a smartphone, but there is a catch to it. Chrome will not support adobe flash player.

What is Chrome on Android

Google has finally launched the speedy and easy-to-use browser chrome for smartphones and tablets. However, it is still in the beta stage, which means it is still on a test run. You can download chrome from the android market free.
However, it will only work for android version 4.0, or the ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ phone. You will be able to access all your chrome settings, browse at high speeds and synchronize your phone and desktop.

What was the last version of Flash Player for Android phones

The last version for flash player in android phones was released in December 2011. After version 11.1, adobe has decided to stop developing newer versions as the software has reportedly not been working on platforms other than android.

Why has adobe abandoned developing flash for mobile devices

That flash will no longer be available on android was confirmed by adobe early in February 2012. Adobe now wants to concentrate on developing HTML5, which it thinks will gradually replace the flash experience.

However, flash will continue to be available for default browser in android. They are working on programs that will help a smooth transition from flash to HTML5. Apple has already refused to allow adobe on iOS, that is, on devices like ipad, iphone and ipod.

They felt that flash was redundant and was not performing well on their operating system. The company also complained that it was insecure and slow, draining the device battery quickly. They are keener on using native applications for apple products.

What is HTML5?
HTML5 is a language for structuring and presenting content on the internet. It comes with many syntactical features. These are crafted which to handle graphic and media content, without the use of an application programming interfaces (APIs).

However, this language is still being continually upgraded and modified. Yet, it has already gained much success in a wide range of tablets and smart phones.

How is chrome on android different from its default browse

Chrome on android is still in its beta version. It is also available to a limited range of smartphones, specifically, those which run on the latest version of android. The latest version of android is popularly known as the Ice Cream Sandwich, it is the 4.0 version.

Google claims to provide the same speed and simplicity of the chrome browser on your smartphone as you have experienced on your desktop. The default browser had not been supporting HTML5. Although both default browser and chrome are webkit derived, the former lacks in browsing speed and hardware acceleration.

What do experts think of this move by Google

In 2010, apple rejected adobe from its operating system. Google has followed suit in 2012. Microsoft has also already declared that, by next year, it will not allow the flash plug-in to install in version 10 of its internet explorer in windows 8.

Experts see this move as an action to fall into the trend of giving up flash for faster browsers. They have also predicted that the use of flash will eventually stop even on desktops. Soon, the experts feel, HTML5 and similar applications will take over the web experience, eliminating the flash player.

The importance of URL rewriting

Introductory facts on URL rewriting

url rewriting fundamentalsThere isn’t a person who does not utilize search engine for some particular task or the other, which is due to the fact that they have improved the searching capabilities of a search. There are many aspects of SEO, which needs to be considered and carried out effectively to help a firm create a strong presence over the web. URL rewriting can be seen as one such important aspect of the SEO (search engine optimization), which is most of the times overlooked by many.

The term URL rewriting is a very broad term, where it includes something known as a rewrite engine, which aids in the modification of the way a URL is displayed. The technique of URL rewriting generally aims to create more SEO friendly and static URLs from the dynamic ones, so that they are more searchable and readable.

The benefits and the aspects for using URL rewriting

It is extremely important that URLs make sense and give an idea about the page it refers to (the page being displayed), as well as being easy for the search engines to comprehend.  URL rewriting does not show the inner workings and statistics behind a website’s address to the user, preventing them from seeing any query strings, which does not prove to be beneficial to the site.

This process is not only useful for those viewing or reading it, but also helps in the security aspect of the site by preventing hacking  or access to malicious users to a great extent.  It aims for the creation of a keyword rich URL, which means including the keyword into the URL text, that would help effectively in the SEO process.  This helps ensure that the site being developed is already optimized to an extent before even its launch adding to its success.

The URLS created also tend to hide the inline linking, which most of the time appears to waste a lot of bandwidth.   Moreover, the same URL can be continued to be used, even if there is a change in the primitive technology, which has been used, that appears to be very useful.

The process of URL rewriting can be carried out on any type of site or web content management systems, be it an asp.net developed site or the ones created with the use of PHP technology. The process of URL rewriting is carried out differs based on the languages, suiting their requirement. It seems to be possible with the ASP.NET technology efficiently, because of the fact that it is similar to IIS (Microsoft’s Internet Information System). URL rewriting is also made possible with PHP with the mod_rewrite module (for Apache server), besides others.

Moreover, they also appear to be user-friendly via the interface.  Also it is useful if a user wants to take off a section of the URL in order to get (navigate) to the higher level, which proves to be very beneficial to them.

The concluding aspects on the URL rewriting

There are many ways in which URL rewriting could be employed based on what is trying to be achieved with the process. The above mentioned aspects clearly state the significance of URL rewriting and the benefits it exhibits, which is often not paid much attention to. However, a dot net development Company from India and a PHP development company from India ensure that the factor of URL rewriting is taken into proper consideration for a variety of development requirements. The method is an effective SEO method which if utilized properly can aid successfully in the advancement of your firm.

How can a blogger think like an entrepreneur?

Enterpreneur BloggingAs a blogger you might have the capability to deliver best in class articles. If your blogging horizon is limited to fulfill your writing flair, you should be satisfied enough with the comments posted by your friends and known circles.

However, if you would like to generate money from your online venture, you should turn your articles into crowd pulling articles not only to attract known audience but also unknown visitors. In order to convert your blog into a money generating machine, you should have entrepreneurial skills. We shall check how you can fit into an entrepreneur with being a blogger.

Research

Before the launch a project, you should have done the initial homework about the prospects of various products that you would like to undertake. You can come into the market either with a new product or an existing product. In either case, sufficient groundwork should be done to realize the potential for the product.

You should know the existing products and you should know with whom you are going to compete. You should know the areas or gaps that are to be filled. As this is important for the success or failure of any kind of business even in case of blogging, spending quality time in this aspect will help you launch your product with a solid foundation. You will come with a concrete action plan that makes your product launch a smooth sailing.

Business perspective

A successful entrepreneur will have a business plan. It is required to pull the resources like capital, land, machinery, and material and man power. Fortunately for a blogger, the capital requirement is negligible or nil. If it is a one man army, all the tasks are carried out by a single person. From the blog conception to the delivery all the tasks can be carried out by a single person especially in the initial weeks or months.

As the blog grows, you may need to deploy dedicated personnel to accomplish various tasks. If you are serious about turning your blog into revenue generating platform, you should have a blue-print of your business. For an entrepreneur, it is not only the resources but the product that is going to be launched is more important.

Ultimately that makes the difference in business. Hence, every article that you deliver should be focused to reach the intended audience. You should be able to learn from your audience. You should be able to learn from your competitors. You should be able to learn about new technologies that can better present your content. It is also important to dispatch products to areas where customers are eagerly waiting for your products. Enhanced promotion is required to achieve this goal.

Marketing perspective

However good your product might be or however good your article might be it should be adapted to the current market conditions. The prevailing trends in the markets are very important. If suddenly your entire crowd has shifted from Facebook to Google+, you should be able to catch your audience at Google+ by enhancing your promotions to this end. To achieve this, you should continuously monitor the statistics.

The demographic changes should be analyzed and accordingly you should spread your promotions. You should spice up your articles to attract visitors so that in addition to the value the content delivers, it will add humor or entertainment proportion. Another important factor is the appeasement of search engines.

Since traffic produced through search engines is the major source of income for your blog, you should not ignore the fact that all your articles should be optimized for search engine algorithms. Optimized content will bring optimized results. As the number of visitors to your site increase, you will be able to get more revenue from your blog.

Reaching audience

You should never ignore the fact that customer are lifeline for any business. It is the chain of customers that drives any business. A blogger should recognize this fact and accordingly should participate in entertaining them by replying their comments. You should have presence in forums and discussion groups where you can encash opportunities to convert queries into sales. The impact will be more as large number of quality audience will participate in various forums.

Assessment

Every business should have assessment at the end of every month or every quarter. This will help analyze the direction of business. Similarly, a blogger should be able to quantify skills and various inputs spent towards blogging and then should be to compare the output with the income generated. As happens with any kind of business, profit figures may not be seen in the initial months as these will be compensated in the coming months by vigorous launch of quality articles coupled with consistent business perspective.

The basic optimizations that everyone forgets -SEO

The basic optimizations that everyone forgets
SEO tipsThe design looks good and promising and you are about to make it live. But wait, the job does not end here.
Do you like to own a website that people cannot even find easily while surfing in Google?
You definitely not like the idea of owning a website that comes with barrage of problems. You can not even think of it right. But, it happens.

Even after taking so many precautions, you eventually find that you have missed out on some vital points that create big issue with your website’s online visibility. Here, we are going to share some basic seo techniques that you should not give a miss no matter what.

Meta tag: Just keeping the name of your website in the title is not going to help you make your website appear in some related search queries. You need to add some keywords in the title and Meta description sections of your website if you are to see your website getting a descent amount of traffic to targeted keywords. Do not stuff keywords in title and Meta description section as it will be treated as spam and your website might get penalized for that. Just try to keep it simple and natural.

Set Canonical: Google still treats www and non www version of a website as different URLs and that means, if URLs of your website are not getting redirected from non www to www version, it is creating internal duplicate content. This will certainly not augur well for the visibility of your website. To fix this issue, all non www URLs of the website need to be redirected to with www version via 301 permanent redirection.

Cross Browser Compatibility: This is another vital issue. You do not like to see your website opening like hell in IE because of poor cross browser compatibility issue. Now, before your make your website live, you need to check that the website is rendering perfectly in all major browsers. A poor browsing experience can ruin all your chances of making it big in the virtual world, so give it your best shot if you do not want to face an embarrassing situation at the end.

Validation: You need to make sure that your website conforms to the rules set by W3. Besides that your website does not have any error within it. Some common errors are missing alt tags, forget to close tags etc. Before making your website live, you should check them all otherwise, it will be a huge downer for both the users and search engines.

Analytics: Do not forget to add analytic codes in your website. Without them you will not be able to get indepth analysis of your website. Just create a Google Analytics account and there you go.

Prefetch and Prerender: You do not like to wait, no one does. So, it is your moral duty to preload some pages of your website so that visitors would not have to wait. Just specify the URL that you want to preload with both these two tags and there you go.

Alt tag: Do not forget to add alt tag against all the images of your website. Since Google or other search engines cannot read images, you should always use alt tags against all the images of your website. This will increase the chances of your website appearing in google image search.

Page Load: Make sure that your website is not taking long time to get loaded. If your website takes more than 5 seconds to get loaded, it will cost you dearly. You might lose your visitors and a steady decline is what you are likely to see in the Google analytics report. To fix this thing, you need to follow certain rules religiously. You should not use large images no matter what. Do not use inline CSS or JS files as they contribute significantly to your website’s loading time. Create separate files and put all the codes therein. It will help you reduce page loading time to a great extent.

Read and Reread: Make sure that you have read all the content precisely. Typos are quite common these days and therefore, you should go through all the content of your website to minimize the chances of typos.

Sitemap: You need to have two versions of sitemap – HTML and XML. XML sitemap is for search engine submission purpose whereas HTML sitemap is for users who could otherwise unable to reach to some URLs of your website.

Robots.txt: Robots.txt is a simple txt file that needs to be placed at the root folder. It gives search engines the direction which pages you want them to crawl and which you want them exclude from their index. Just use the Disallow and Allow tags judiciously and there you are done.

If you have checked all of the above mentioned points, I can dare say that your website is in good shape and it is the time to make it live.

Public relations (PR) Progress With Social Media

Public RelationsPublic relations (PR) play an important role in promoting image of an organization. PR department is the connection between the public and organization which utilizes various media. With the changing times, the way PR is handled is also changed. All old-cum-traditional PR practices are to be revised or replaced with the new social media methods.

The change is imminent. If organizations are not geared up for change, it is very likely that they lose substantially and it will be high time for them to built new systems or leverage systems at a later stage. We shall find how PR can be leveraged to achieve the maximum benefit from the changed life styles of the people being influenced by various modes of social media.

Change from Stone Age to Space Age

Traditional public announcements of press releases are replaced with online news releases. Television ads are replaced by YouTube videos. Pamphlets and brochures are replaced by emails and social networking sites. There is no more physical printing on paper.

Your hands are dirt free when every potential customer is informed and updated through online medium. You can reach your friends, customers, employees, competitors and competitors’ customers through social media platforms.

Changed PR’s work style

Present generation of PR executives are engaged with social media right from the morning to the evening. On a typical working day, a PR executive starts his job by leaving comments on Facebook, Twitter and discussion forums. He accepts or rejects friends’ requests and sends new requests to add as friends on social networking sites.

He may publish a blog with the latest happenings on his company and post the link on Twitter and Facebook. Next, he will check for the available nice stuff on social bookmarking sites like Digg, Stumbleupon, etc. He will be busy in sending emails to friends and employees.

By the evening, he will be busy in doing research on the next blog post that should be delivered. He leaves comments and adds friends from other bloggers.

Information and its proliferation

In all the PR activities, preparation of content takes first priority. The content should be search engine optimized. The content should present the right information in right time and should reach the right people. It should erect interest in the audience and make them discuss about the things presented. Various means of content can be utilized.

It can be through blogs, images, videos, presentations, PDF files and Podcast. Before releasing any content, the content should be presented with appropriate title and description. Keywords should be analyzed and link building strategy should be chalked out. The content should be promoted through various social media platforms.

On our discount coupon site that offers carbonite and sittercity discount coupons, the main promotion of the blog’s content is done through social media platforms and hence most of the traffic is also from social media sites.

Blog platform – the PR desk

It is imperative to have a dedicated blog site with the organization’s paid domain name. Blogging gets coverage from search engines, social bookmarking sites, social news sites and social networks.

Focus on public

Traditional PR practice confines to offline promotion. Latest and current PR practice caters to both online and offline community. A single promotional activity through traditional means takes months of planning and demands lot of budgetary allocation.

In the changed scenario, it is possible to promote on a daily basis or even on hourly basis. You have direct access to millions of online subscribers who read blogs, who makes friends through Facebook, who watch videos on YouTube than on television, who check social bookmarking sites before purchasing an item, etc. PR’s focus has shifted from ‘attracting media for coverage’ to ‘attracting public through social media platforms’.

Multiple opportunities

Social media opportunities are in galore from all angles. This is the time to seize opportunities from every possible interaction with others you come across. PR should be active enough to respond queries. It is a two way process unlike traditional ‘one to many’ publicity campaigns. You should participate in discussions and should be open to listen and take advice.

Importance of building relationships

PR can reach public through Facebook and Twitters. It is essential to build relations on one to one and one to many basis. It is difficult to build relations or bond without building a rapport with them that come across you. You should introduce yourself, you should talk about common interests, you should answer questions and these steps will create confidence and will lead to relationships. These relationships will pay you back in PR promotions.

Promoting promotions

The content can be promoted through social networking sites (Facebook and Twitter), social bookmarking sites (Del.iciu.us), videos (YouTube) and photos (flickr).

Monitor your growth

You can monitor how your blogs are being marketed through various means. You can monitor how they are shared through Facebook and Twitter. You can monitor discussion on forums and you can subscribe to RSS feeds to monitor all the activities with a single tool.

You will be able to gauge the success by tracking the visitors that you have attracted to your website or promotion platform. You will be able to gauge the number of new leads created. For gauging these statistics, you can deploy tool like, Google Analytics.

Has your PR desk changed or yet to change? Let me know if you are better off?
